What is an Audiologist?
Audiologists are professionals who specialize in the evaluation and non-medical treatment of hearing loss. Audiologists have extensive training and skills to evaluate the hearing of infants, children, and adults.
All of our audiologists conduct complete diagnostic audiological evaluations, hearing aid evaluations and fittings, vestibular function testing to evaluate dizziness and vertigo, and auditory evoked potential testing to evaluate neural disorders of hearing.
Audiologists are not medical doctors but have more graduate level training in the evaluation of hearing loss than any other profession. The current entry-level degree to be an audiologist is a Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree, which all of our audiologists possess. Audiologists must be licensed in the state in which they practice. The American Speech, Language, and Hearing Association (ASHA) and/or the American Academy of Audiology (AAA) certify most audiologists nationally.

Meet Our Audiologists
Sarah Archer, Au.D., CCC-A
Department Director
Originally from the DC area, Sarah received her Doctorate of Audiology (AuD) from Bloomsburg University and her Bachelor’s degree in Hearing and Speech Sciences from the University of Maryland, College Park. She enjoys working directly with patients, and helping in all aspects of their hearing healthcare. Dr. Archer has her Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and is licensed to practice audiology in Virginia. In her spare time, Sarah enjoys spending time with her family and friends, cooking, and traveling.
Jordan Mecca, Au.D., CCC-A
Originally from Columbus, GA, Jordan earned her Bachelor of Arts degree and Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Georgia. She earned her Doctorate of Audiology (AuD) from the University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL in 2021. She completed her fourth-year placement at Arizona Balance and Hearing Aids in Phoenix, AZ. Dr. Mecca is a board-certified Audiologist in the state of Virginia and holds her Certificate of Clinical Competence by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She specializes in hearing disorders, hearing technology solutions, tinnitus management, and balance disorders. When Jordan is not working as an audiologist, she enjoys spending time with friends and her pet Finley, watching foreign films, cooking, traveling, and exploring her new home of Alexandria.
Chloe Rose Bickel, Au.D., CCC-A
Originally from Livingston, NJ, Chloe Rose earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She earned her Doctorate of Audiology (AuD) from Syracuse University in 2023. She completed her fourth-year placement at the Connecticut Veterans Affairs Healthcare System in West Haven and Newington, CT. Dr. Bickel is a board-certified Audiologist in the state of Virginia and holds her Certificate of Clinical Competence by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She specializes in hearing & balance disorders and amplification options for those with hearing loss. In her spare time, Chloe Rose enjoys reading books from her dad’s book collection, listening to podcasts, and spending time with her family in the DMV area.
Berkley Petersen, Au.D.
Originally from the Northern VA area, Berkley received her Doctorate of Audiology (AuD) from the University of North Texas and her bachelor’s degree in Communicative Disorders from the University of Alabama. Berkley completed her fourth-year placement at Providence Speech and Hearing Center in Orange, CA where she saw both adult and pediatric patients. She then moved to San Diego, CA where she worked for an Ear, Nose, and Throat practice for several years before moving back to her home state of Virginia where she has been continuing to enhance her clinical skills. She enjoys working directly with patients of all ages, helping in all aspects of their hearing healthcare. Dr. Petersen is a board-certified Audiologist in the state of Virginia and is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology. In her spare time, Berkley enjoys spending time with her family and friends, cooking, sailing, and traveling.
